# ChargeGuardian — Privacy Policy

## Our Promise

**We do not collect, store, transmit, or sell your personal or financial data.** Period.

## What We Mean by That

ChargeGuardian is designed from the ground up to protect your privacy. Here's exactly how we handle (or rather, don't handle) your data:

### What the Extension Reads
The Extension reads information **already visible on checkout web pages** in your browser, including:
- Payment method labels (e.g., "Visa •••• 4242") displayed on checkout pages
- Transaction amounts shown on checkout pages
- Merchant names displayed on checkout pages

This reading happens **entirely within your browser** and **never leaves your device**.

### What the Extension Stores
The Extension stores the following **locally in your browser's synced storage**:
- Whether the extension is enabled or disabled
- Your "always warn" preference
- Your list of whitelisted (trusted) merchants

This data is managed by your browser's built-in storage system. We have **no access** to it.

### What the Extension Does NOT Do
- ❌ Does NOT collect, store, or transmit credit card numbers
- ❌ Does NOT collect, store, or transmit bank account numbers
- ❌ Does NOT collect, store, or transmit passwords or login credentials
- ❌ Does NOT use cookies or any form of tracking
- ❌ Does NOT use analytics (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.)
- ❌ Does NOT communicate with any external servers
- ❌ Does NOT share any data with third parties
- ❌ Does NOT sell any data (because we don't collect any)

## How the Extension Works

1. **Content script** runs on checkout pages (PayPal, Stripe, etc.)
2. Reads visible text and DOM elements to detect payment method
3. Displays a confirmation dialog before you click "Pay"
4. Your settings (enabled/disabled, whitelist) are stored in your browser

**No data ever leaves your browser.**

## Third-Party Services

ChargeGuardian does **not** integrate with, send data to, or rely on any third-party services, APIs, or external servers. The Extension is entirely self-contained.

## Children's Privacy

ChargeGuardian is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

## Open Source

ChargeGuardian may be open source. If so, anyone can audit the source code to verify these privacy claims. We encourage independent security reviews.

## Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date above. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of material changes.

## Your Rights

Because we don't collect any data, there is no data to:
- Access
- Delete
- Export
- Modify

Your data stays in your browser, under your control, at all times.
